And it's easy to see why. The British designer's Spring 2012 collection melds sequins into floaty chiffon with a result that is graceful and feminine. Sheer fluid gowns were presented in delectable shades of lemon, mint, aqua, orange and cherry. There was a focus on asymmetrical tops and hems, soft pleating, as well as low v-necks and floral embellishments. What I love most about this collection is the vivid use of texture. Sculptural gowns were enriched with opulent fabrics like shantung, brocade, beaded chiffon and organza. Candy-store colours glazed the runway in fuchsia, purple, citrons and turquoise, then mellowed into softer shades. Satin bow belts clinched-in waists, while flounces and frilled hems added weight to the saccharine dresses. He looked to ancient Egypt as an inspiration, which is visible through the placid colour scheme. Desert sandy beiges and stone, sunset oranges, blue oases and Cleopatra-tinged gold mesh. Work-wear is given a glamourous edge with sheer cuffed harem pants, double-breasted suit blazers, silky shirt dresses and flared pants. Metallic gold belts were an essential accessory, as well as gorgeous strappy gladiator sandals. Georgina Chapman and Karen Craig's signature fairytale touch was seen throughout their Spring 2012 collection. The pair were inspired by the beauty of the sea, more specifically, the 1876 painting of Russian artist Ilya Repin, called Sadko in the Underwater Kingdom. Voluminous gowns were sumptuously enveloped in tulle and chiffon, shaded in lavender grey, pearl white and caramel nudes. Each outfit makes a bold statement; whether it's with metallic stripes, bright colour, floral prints, feathered hems or shimmering beadwork. Naeem's wife, Ranjana designed the exotic pieces of jewellery paired with each outfit. I like how the silhouettes varied from fitted to ballgown to flowing kaftans. I love the combination of sorbet shades that harmoniously blend together. Lemonade and lavender, peppermint and peach; It's fresh and unexpected. I haven't seen anything like this in fashion week. There were plenty of shorts and pleated knee-length skirts in this girly-glam collection. Stuart made use of interesting and unusual prints, like palm trees, birds, cherry blossoms and Japanese doll-like designs. Tousled hair and, kohl line eyes and rose-tinted lips completed the doll house experience.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>

New York Fashion Week Favourites 2011 - Part One

It runs from 8-15 September this year. There have been so many awe-inspiring shows, it's impossible to post each and every one. He payed homage to the "enchanting beauty and splendor of the tulip", as seen in his reverse tulip shaped skirts. Beautifully hand-painted silk-linen dresses flourished in shades of rose, daisy, fern & magnolia. His range of romantic blush-toned evening gowns were sprinkled with floral appliques. His abstract floral print dresses were given a multidimensional lift with rubber palliates, tulle and floral motifs. The Nepalese designer was inspired by Japanese photographer Nobuyushi Araki's series called 'Sensual Flowers'. Aqua green, black and white made up the rest of the palette, colouring tailored jackets, laser-cut dresses, wool suits, leather roped cords and silk georgette floral frocks. This season, he revives this silhouette with fitted corsets, luxurious duchess satin and embellished tulle. Necklines, for the most part was off-the-shoulder. Shades of blue were juxtaposed with ruby red and ivory. Grey, black and white ensembles were energized with a splash of bubblegum pink and fluorescent yellow. The only print used was petal-patterned, seen on chiffon dresses, blouses and pants. The most notable feature of the collection are the peplum dresses and skirts, rounded off with a black bow belt. Simple lines aside, chic cocktail dresses were adorned with Swarovski crystals and feathers. Staying within the boundaries of her personal style, Rachel's designs are effortless and wearable, imparting relaxed glamour. Zoe offers tailored suit jackets, multicoloured maxis and georgette jumpsuits, all of which can be worn from day to night. She also featured cropped pants and a spot of animal print. For Spring 2012, he presented an invigorating range that set the runway alight in vivid orange and chartreuse. Sandy beige maintained the calm. What began as simple and straightforward ended in waves of ruffles and tulle. I found that even the simple looks were striking; flowing pleated maxi skirts, palazzo pants, striped jersey t-shirts and shift dresses. Sea-inspired dresses were decorated with coral-like chiffon ruffles. I love the pairing of the bright sandals, which are also designed by Siriano. </div><div style="text-align: center;"> </div><div style="text-align: center;"> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>

Tuesday Thrills - Tea and Tulips

Tea and Tulips Vintage Clothes Stefanie Kuncman's flair for vintage fashion inspired her to start the online boutique, <a href="http://www.blogger.com/goog_1459868741">Tea and Tulips</a><a href="http://teaandtulips.bigcartel.com/">.</a> Steffy sells one-of-a-kind vintage pieces which she finds and hand picks herself. She modernizes certain outfits, either by shortening the length or altering the sleeves on blouses and dresses. This Miami gal says that she is 'madly in love with clothes' and shares this love on her site by personally modeling each of the outfits. I don't know how she does it, if I the task of personally picking out pretty vintage clothes for my store, I'd want to keep them all! Her quirky ensembles have been featured on various sites, including Elle, Vogue Germany, Grazia, Fabsugar and Vogue Girl Korea. Her clothes are well-maintained, affordable and adorable! I'm all of those things, just on different days, depending on my mood. I really spend all my money on shoes... What is your most treasured item of clothing?  I once thrifted a genuine leather/suede fully-fringed waistcoat for R30. It has a tattered old label inside it that says "Handmade in Mexico" - it's really special. Then, I once saw my friend with a vintage top knitted entirely with genuine leather that I was obsessed with, and then I thrifted the exact same one in black and red for R5! It was a miracle! Most of my favourite pieces are vintage from my mom/aunts or it's thrifted. Things were just made so much better back in the day. Who are your style icons?  Edie Sedgewick, Nicole Richie, Kate Moss and Carrie Bradshaw - everything is so effortless.  <div> Most extravagant fashion purchase  Contrary to popular belief I don't shop extravagantly! I just shop a LOT. But when I do splurge it goes to shoes, like leather boots or killer-but-classic heels. </div><div> </div><div>What is on your fashion wish list?  A walk in closet. And maybe an Elie Saab/Zuhair Murad wedding dress just to play around in! Ok and more comfy chunky heels. I'm becoming one of those women who wear heels more often than not, just because it's fun. </div><div> What is your signature scent & why?  I love perfume! I have so many bottles but my true favourites that I alternate between are Eclat D'arpege by Lanvin, and Dior Addict II. I love that they are both fresh, feminine and slightly sweet, and can be worn in the day and at night. How would you define your city's style?  Very laid-back. Too laid-back! Generally comfort is key, and I don't think people enjoy dressing up unless it's a special occasion - they always seem to need a good reason! But our people are so diverse, Cape Town is filled with cliques so I can't really give a well-rounded answer for this one. As well as basic genuine leather goods in black and brown, like boots, bags and jackets. They give an outfit more texture and automatically makes everything else you're wearing look expensive and chic.  Where are your favourite shopping hotspots?  Thrift stores of course! Yes they're filled with a lot of gross, used things but I have had some truly amazing finds; a 100% silk ASOS dress brand new with tags still attached, a lace low-back Betsey Johnson dress, a Blumarine blazer, Versace high waist shorts, a Pierre Cardin leather clutch and much much more. I'm addicted. I love that it is highly unlikely someone else will have the same garment, it's cheap, and the clothing from back in the day will always be of far higher quality than the stuff made today. However I only buy things that are in excellent condition and I wash the garments thoroughly.  Biggest Fashion Do's  Spend money on classic pieces. Biggest Fashion Don'ts  Unless you are going to have it tailored, don't buy things that don't fit your specific body well. It doesn't matter who it's by or how much it has been marked down.  Fabulous fashion advice 1. The more terrible you feel, the higher you should wear your heel - if you dress better it will make you feel better. 2.
